The Netherlands has asked its retail chains to label Israeli products made in areas beyond the 1949 ceasefire line, including Judea, Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. The Netherlands is the second European country, after the UK, to introduce this kind of labeling system. However, there will be no punitive measures for those retailers who choose not to comply. Also, it will not be illegal to import products from these areas and only labeling of fresh fruit, vegetables, wine, honey, olive oil, fish, meat, chicken, eggs and cosmetics will be affected. The decision comes following the EU recommendation for its member states to implement an economic boycott of Jewish communities in those areas.
